In Pittsburgh, the waters of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers flow into the Ohio river, making it the fitting stage for “Rivers of Living Water” theme of the Golden Jubilee Conference of the the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The phenomenon began there in 1967 at a Pittsburgh retreat house called “The Ark and the Dove,” when a dozen young adults were touched by the “Baptism in the Holy Spirit,” a powerful, life-transforming experience, which from the original twelve has now spread to over 120 million Catholics world-wide.

Our community, which was born of the Charismatic Renewal, judged the jubilee so important we attended the July20-23rd conference as a community . Father Bob gave one of the workshops, and he and Father George were honored with a group of pioneers who have served the renewal from its earliest years. A Saturday night Eucharistic procession of some 6,000 wound its way from the Convention center to the point where the three rivers meet. Dozens of dramatic healings occurred, including at least six persons who walked, even danced, out of their wheel chairs, and a woman blind from birth in her left eye, gained normal sight.
